IRIS publishes guides about gambling and mental health because the questions people ask deserve answers they can trust. This page explains how we research, write and maintain what we publish.
How topics are chosen
We start with the questions readers ask about gambling and emotional wellbeing. What do people want to understand? What matters when someone is worried about their own gambling or someone else's? The topics we cover come from those real concerns, not from what we think ought to matter. When you write to us with a suggestion, that shapes what we research next.
How a guide is researched
Every article draws on public reference works, official public-body sites and recognised organisations in mental health and gambling support. We check facts against more than one source where possible, so the information you read is consistent across reliable places. At the end of each guide you will find a "Further reading" section that lists where we found what we wrote — you can follow those links to the original sources yourself.
How it is written
We write in plain language because gambling harm is serious and deserves to be understood clearly. When we use a term that might be unfamiliar, we explain it where it appears. We do not exaggerate what self-help can do, and we do not promise that one step will solve everything. What we do is describe how things work, what people can actually do, and where to find support.
Independence
Nothing on this portal is paid for by a gambling site or any other organisation that might benefit from what we write. No ranking is sponsored; nothing is sold to you. The editorial team decides independently what appears here, based on what readers need to know.
Updates and corrections
Guides are reviewed when something changes — a tool is updated, an organisation's contact details shift, or advice moves on. If you spot an error in an article, write to [email protected] and we will correct it without delay. Corrections are made as soon as we can check them.
How to suggest a topic
Do you have a question about gambling and mental health that you cannot find answered here? We want to know. Send your suggestion to [email protected], and we will consider it for a future guide. You do not need to include your name — just tell us what you want to understand.
